The principle behind a spark flame arrestor involves two main functions: spark quenching and flame arresting. Here's how it works:


Spark Quenching: The device is constructed with a mesh or perforated plate assembly that is designed to extinguish or quench sparks generated from a potential ignition source, such as machinery or equipment. The mesh or plate has small openings that allow the flow of gas or vapor but are small enough to impede the passage of sparks. When sparks pass through the arrestor, they lose energy due to turbulence and contact with the mesh, causing them to cool down and extinguish.

Flame Arresting: In case a spark does ignite a flammable gas or vapor, the flame arresting mechanism comes into play. The arrestor typically consists of multiple layers of metal or wire mesh with small gaps between them.
